No one has the right to bully and intimidate others. We have seen some horrible cases of gun violence and also accidental tragedies. Most people believe that one can respect the second amendment and still have reasonable laws that help keep guns out of the hands of kids, domestic abusers, and the mentally ill. No solution works all of the time, but there are convincing statistics that show these things help. I have stood on the floor in the House of Representatives while armed open carry advocates stared down at me from the gallery. I have heard people talk about how afraid they are when confronted by people openly carrying guns and are unable to know which armed folks mean them no harm. It is time to make some sensible changes in our laws regarding background checks and where and when people may openly carry firearms and not be intimidated by special interests who bend our Constitution in a way never intended by our country’s founders.
